Sarah Bennett - Flute
Sarah is studying towards a Masters degree at the Royal Academy of Music with Michael Cox, and was previously at the Royal Northern College of Music with Richard Davis and Katherine Baker, graduating with a first class degree. Sarah has performed as Guest Principal flute with Northern Ballet and the Hallé Orchestra, as well as regularly freelancing with the London Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Opera North, Royal Northern Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, National Symphony Orchestra, Arensky Chamber Orchestra, Constella Ballet and Sinfonia Cymru. She is currently on trial for Sub-Principal Flute of the Hallé Orchestra and Scottish Opera, and for the Principal Flute position of Northern Ballet. Sarah was awarded places on the 2011 London Symphony Orchestra Academy and the 2013 London Sinfonietta Academy and has also done orchestral experience schemes BBC Philharmonic, Halle and Philharmonia orchestras.
Sarah joined Catrin Finch to give performances of William Matthias's Concerto Melos for Flute and Harp with Orchestra on a tour of Wales with Sinfonia Cymru. Other notable performances include Liebermann's Flute Concerto with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra after winning the RNCM Concerto Competition. Sarah won the Yamaha Music Foundation Europe Scholarship (2015), RAM Jo Weinberg Flute Award (2015/16) RNCM Gold Medal Award (2012), the RNCM Ken Griffin Flute Prize (2012), and gained Second Prizes in the Alexander and Buono International Flute Competition (2013, New York), the RAM Flute Competition (2014) and the RAM Piccolo Competition (2015). Sarah is an artist for the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme.
She was a founding member of the award winning flute trio 'Tempest', who's successes included winning the 2013 Royal Over Seas League Chamber Music Competition, Second Prize in the 15th international Kuhlau Flute Competition (2013, Germany), and winning all the chamber music prizes at the RNCM (Chris Rowland Prize, Trevor Wye Prize, Contemporary Music Award, and Chamber Music Group of the Year 2011). They were Park Lane Group Artists for the 2013/14 season, giving performances in the Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and St Martin-in-the-Fields.
