Matthew Hardy - Conductor

Matthew Hardy was born in Liverpool in 1986 and began playing the trumpet at school aged 7. He moved to London in 2007 and in 2013 graduated with first class honours in classical trumpet from Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Matthew is currently  the musical director and conductor of University College London Concert Band, Bart's and The London Medical School Choir, Symphonic Wind Orchestra of North London, and East London Community Band. His freelance work has recently included Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance Junior Department, and Minehead and Exmoor Music Festival.

As the Artistic Director of East London Music Group, he recently oversaw a very successful successful performance of Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale at Queen Mary University of London. The group is also involved in education in East London and in January plans to deliver a Stravinsky-inspired performance project involving children from three Tower Hamlets primary schools.

In addition to conducting he is also active as a trumpet player. He is a keen teacher and has studied for several years with the highly respected Danish pedagogue Kristian Steenstrup. As a trumpet tutor he works with students from Queen Mary University of London and Bromley Youth Music T rust.

Aside from music he is a trustee of Sarah’s R ural Library Fund, a charity working to help promote literacy in the indigenous population of rural Peru.
