Protesters clash with police during the Battle of Cable Street.

This three-movement piece for large ensemble and two actors tells the story of the Battle of Cable Street in music and narration. It depicts the build up to the events of Sunday 4th October, the drama of the Battle itself, and the aftermath in Parliament and the press.

Described by M Magazine as "One of the strongest new composing voices working in Britain right now", Robin Haigh became one of the youngest ever recipients of a British Composer Award in 2017 for his recorder quintet In Feyre Foreste. He studied at Goldsmiths College and the Royal Academy of Music, and is the Young Composer in Residence for The Sage Gateshead Young Sinfonia. The concert will also feature students from Queen Mary University performing Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, Jupiter by Holst and The Firebird by Stravinsky, directed by QMUL Director of Music, Paul Edlin, and Michelle Castelletti.
